GREEN IS HOT!

Green paint, green fabric, green materials, green décor and green manufacturing. Global environmental issues are causing individuals and companies alike to “go green”. People are opting for green products and services and prefer to affiliate themselves with organizations that show environmental sensitivity.

New findings from the 2007 ImagePower Green Brands Survey indicates that consumers expect to double their spending on green products and services in the next year, totalling an estimated $500 billion for 2008 or $43 billion per month.

The results of the survey, conducted by WPP's Landor Associates, Penn, Schoen & Berland Associates and Cohn & Wolfe, were released at last fall’s Sustainable Brands '07 conference.

The research also indicated that 90% of North Americans agree the nation faces important green issues and problems, and 82% believe it is important for companies to implement environmentally friendly practices.

COLLEGE IS HOT!

College has been environmentally conscious for over 100 years. Reusing resources and limiting landfill disposal has been a priority for College from the beginning. Committed to ensuring that there is minimal discarded material, College is efficient in its approach to recycle and reuse waste products.  In addition, any scrap wood pieces are ground up and used to heat the affiliated school nearby during the winter months, providing a more eco-friendly heating solution to gas.

All solid colours and clear finishes applied to College's furniture are based on revolutionary high solid coatings. High solid coatings help to minimize the amount of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC’s) emitted into the atmosphere during and after production, making for a cleaner and healthier environment for our College employees and customers alike.

All finishes used at College Woodwork are made in Canada and meet stringent Canadian air quality regulations. In addition, the coatings do not contain hazardous metals or materials. That means College’s furniture is free of lead, mercury and other harmful heavy metals.

As we move through 2008, we will no doubt see a migration from traditional mindsets and practices to a movement toward all things “new (green) and improved.”   College is proud and committed to continuing to do its part as we move towards a greener future.    With their commitment to preserving the environment, College proves that it is possible to produce pieces that project style and sophistication while using a manufacturing process that protects our world. Who knew College was ahead of the game over 100 years ago!
